Motorized vs Fixed Louvered Pergola: Azenco R-BLADE vs R-BREEZE
June 19, 2026

Azenco builds two louvered pergolas we install often: the motorized R-BLADE and the fixed-louver R-BREEZE. Both are aluminum, both are built for real weather, and both look great over a deck or patio. The right one depends on how much control you want and how much technology you want overhead.
R-BLADE vs R-BREEZE at a glance
| Feature | R-BLADE (Motorized) | R-BREEZE (Fixed) |
|---|---|---|
| Louvers | Motorized aluminum, rotate up to 90 degrees | Fixed patented slats, 90 degree or 55 degree edition |
| Rain handling | Closes to a gapless seal with hidden gutters and an automatic rain sensor | Slatted roof sheds some rain, not a full seal |
| Moving parts | Motorized, more technology | None, lowest maintenance |
| Smart features | Remote, wall switch, app, smart-home, sensors | Optional smart lighting |
| Snow and wind | Up to 100 lbs per sq ft, up to 190 mph, Miami-Dade NOA approved | Up to 100 lbs per sq ft, up to 190 mph |
| Colors | White, Black, Dark Gray, Wood Grain, Bronze, Custom | White, Black, Dark Gray, Wood Grain, Bronze, Custom |
| Relative cost | Higher, motorized | More budget-friendly |
| Best for | Full sun, shade, and rain control at the touch of a button | Architectural, no-maintenance shade |
When R-BLADE is the right call
If you want one structure that handles full sun, dappled shade, and a real rainstorm without you running outside, the motorized R-BLADE is the answer. Tilt the louvers for shade in the afternoon, close them tight when a storm rolls in, open them fully for stars at night. Hidden integrated gutters carry water away.
When R-BREEZE makes more sense
If you want clean architectural shade with no motors, sensors, or electronics to maintain, the R-BREEZE is hard to beat. The slats are engineered to break up direct sun while letting breeze through, and the structure carries the same heavy snow and wind ratings as the motorized version.
Which is right for you
Choose R-BLADE if you want to control sun, shade, and rain on demand and you like smart-home integration. Choose R-BREEZE if you want clean architectural shade with no motors to maintain. Either way you are getting an aluminum structure built for Maryland weather. See the full lineup on our pergolas page.
