The First Question
Usually yes, but not always without changes. An existing deck was engineered to carry people and furniture, not the dead load of a roof, snow on top of it, and wind trying to lift it. The footings, posts, and beams are what decide the answer, not the decking.
We start by looking at what is already there: footing size and depth, post spacing, beam spans, and how the deck attaches to the house. Sometimes the existing structure carries a roof as built. More often it needs specific reinforcement, and occasionally the honest answer is that rebuilding the substructure costs less than retrofitting it. We will tell you which one you are looking at before you spend anything.
The other half of the job is where the new roof meets the existing one. That tie-in and its flashing is what decides whether the room leaks in five years, and it is the detail most often done badly.

What It Costs
The honest answer is that it depends on three things: whether your existing deck structure can carry a roof or needs reinforcement, the size and roof style, and whether you want an open rafter ceiling or a finished one. Reinforcement work is the variable that most changes the number, and it is not knowable until someone looks at your footings. We give a to-the-penny proposal before any work starts, so the number you see is the number you pay.
