Maryland Retractable Screens
Motorized retractable screens turn an open patio, porch, or deck into shaded, insect-free space at the touch of a button, then roll completely out of sight when you are done. Authorized Sunspace dealer serving Harford, Baltimore, and Cecil County.

About Motorized Retractable Screens
The Sunspace Retractable Screen System is a screen that lives inside a slim housing above your opening and drops down a guided track when you want it. Push a button and you have shade, insect protection, and privacy across a patio, porch, or deck. Push it again and the screen retracts completely out of sight, so you get your open view back. It is the flexible middle ground between an open patio and a permanently built room, and because we are already an authorized Sunspace dealer, it is the same brand and support behind our sunrooms.
Why Custom Design & Build
Somfy motors with remote, wall switch, smartphone app, and smart home control. Manual versions are available too.
Filters up to 90% of UV rays and reflects up to 90% of solar radiation, so your space stays cooler on hot afternoons.
A guided track holds the screen tight at the edges, so bugs stay outside and you stay out on the porch.
The same manufacturer behind our sunrooms, with a manufacturer warranty and local service from our crew.

How It Works
The screen rolls out of a slim housing mounted above your opening and travels down a guided track on both sides. The track is what makes the difference. It keeps the screen tight and square instead of flapping in the breeze, which is how the system blocks insects and holds up to wind.
Manual versions use the same guided track and are a good fit for smaller openings. Motorized retractable screens use a Somfy motor, available with standard or intelligent obstacle detection so the screen stops if something is in the way.
You have four ways to run motorized outdoor shades: a handheld remote, a wall-mounted switch, a smartphone app, and smart home integration with Amazon Alexa and Google Home. Most homeowners use the remote day to day and the app when they are not home.
The Benefits
The screen filters up to 90% of UV rays and reflects up to 90% of solar radiation. Sunspace states it can drop temperatures by as much as 11 degrees Celsius, about 20 degrees Fahrenheit, in summer.
The guided track holds the screen tight at the edges, so mosquitoes and gnats stay out. TuffScreen No-See-Ums fabric handles the tiniest insects.
Sheerweave fabric gives you privacy from the street or the neighbors while still letting natural light through. Retract the screen and the view is wide open again.
The system blocks wind, rain, and insects, so a covered patio or porch stays usable earlier in spring and later into fall.
Options
Fabric choice is where you decide what the screen does best: block heat, stop tiny insects, add privacy, or stand up to an exposed opening. We walk through the options with you during the site visit.
| Fabric line | Best for | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| TuffScreen | Durability and pets | High durability with high pet resistance. Also available as TuffScreen No-See-Ums for tiny insects. |
| SunTex 80 / 90 / 95 / 99 | Glare and heat | High UV block and high wind control. A good pick for west-facing patios with strong afternoon glare. |
| Sheerweave | Privacy | High privacy while keeping natural light in the space. |
| Soltis 502 | Exposed openings | Very high durability and wind control. |
| PanoramaFR Clear | Clear view | A clear panel option when you want to keep the view unobstructed. |
The housing and tracks are rust-proof aluminum and stainless steel with tear-resistant screen fabric, backed by a manufacturer warranty.
Applications
Retractable deck screens and motorized porch screens work on almost any covered opening. Sizes run from 24 in up to 276 in wide and up to 168 in high, so small side openings and wide patio bays are both on the table. Wider spans can be covered with multiple units side by side.
Know the Difference
These are two different products and they solve different problems. A retractable screen is temporary by design. It drops down when you want shade, privacy, or bug protection and rolls completely out of sight when you do not. The structure stays open, nothing is framed in, and the view is unchanged when the screen is up.
A screen room is built. It has framed walls with fixed screen panels, a defined footprint, and it stays that way year round. It feels more like a room and it is the better answer if you want a permanent screened enclosure with a door, furniture, and a finished look.
If you want the fully built screened enclosure, start with our screen rooms. If you want a room you can use in cold weather, with vinyl or glass windows, look at our sunrooms. If you like the idea of keeping the space open most of the time and closing it in only when you need to, motorized retractable screens are the right call.
